AMD has introduced its new Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-Series processors, which are replacing their non-PRO counterparts. These new chips offer better performance in almost every way, and also come with a high price tag. But for those who need a combination of massive core counts, memory capacity & bandwidth, and PCIe connectivity, AMD’s new platform is hard to beat.
The new Threadripper PRO 5000 WX is based on the same Zen 3 core architecture as previous models. It offers very high core counts—up to 64 cores in this case—but with faster turbo boost speeds than the EPYC family. It also supports many more PCI-Express lanes and memory channels than AMD’s mainstream Ryzen models.
AMD’s EPYC family was designed for server applications, but the Threadripper PRO 5000 WX brings that same level of performance down to workstation users who need it most.
